  • 12: Gas-tight syringe
  • 13: Gas/pressure removed from flask 4
  • 14: Gas/pressure added to flask 3

O = Open stopcock; X = Closed stopcock; black-arrow = Gas flow direction, orange arrow = Liquid flow direction


Note: By use of syringe and two way syringe stop-cock, the atmosphere of flask 7 can be forced into the flask 3, which will now be at higher pressure, to start the siphon effect. Once the siphon effect has started, it may be necessary to open the syringe stop-cock to allow the atmospheres to equal.
