Calcium hypobromite, Ca(BrO)2, is the calcium salt of hypobromous acid. It can be prepared by the reaction of bromine with aqueous calcium hydroxide solution at 0 °C or lower.[1] The product of the reaction of bromine with solid calcium hydroxide is formulated as CaBr(BrO) or, equivalently, Ca(BrO)2·CaBr2.[2] It has long been known as a strong oxidizing and bleaching agent.[2]
