A manganite is a mixed oxide of manganese and a more electropositive element, usually an alkali metal, an alkaline earth metal or a lanthanoid. The manganese is usually in the +3 or +4 oxidation state. The term hypomanganite has also been used for manganese(III) compounds,[1] but many manganites contain both Mn3+ and Mn4+ centres.
