Cerium(III) bromide, CeBr3, is the only bromide of cerium. The the hydrate is prepared by dissolving cerium(III) oxide or cerium carbonate in hydrobromic acid, but cannot be dehydrated without partial hydrolysis.[1] The anhydrous salt is prepared by reaction of the elements.[1] It is a component of the molten salt bath used for the reduction of uranium oxide by magnesium.[3][4]
