We will begin with an assessment of the carbon disulfide process used for making 2-mercaptothiazolines, and the use of hydrogen sulfide for the manufacture of trityl mercaptan and thiobarbituric acid.  These have already been reviewed for safety, but we can revisit the analyses and include an environmental component.

This is the page where we draft our proposals for introducing ISO14001 at Acme. Please feel free to edit things and add things - all previous versions are preserved in the history, so you don't need to worry about deleting others' work. We will start by looking at our usage and handling of carbon disulfide and hydrogen sulfide.

User:Walkerma will post some more details here on Wednesday, and other employees can also contribute their part of the implementation plan.

Environmental policy

  1. Acme Chemical Company, its employees, representatives and contractors, will perform their work in full compliance with all environmental laws of the town, state and nation. They will be guided in this by the Environmental Manager and the company's lawyers.
  2. Acme Chemical Company recognizes the importance of the environment, both local and global, for the future wellbeing of humanity and all life. We value the natural capital and the role it plays in recycling wastes and pollutants back into valuable resources. As such, we aim to do no harm to the environment, and we strive to minimize the environmental impact of all company operations.
  3. We will communicate our environmental standards to all employees, who will be trained to be environmentally responsible in all their work.
  4. We will promote sustainability and environmental responsibility within the local community, wherever appropriate.
  5. We will conduct research and development to ensure that we stay at the forefront of sustainable chemical manufacturing.

Implementation plan

We will begin by developing the infrastructure necessary for ISO14001, and begin performing environmental assessments along those lines. Once we have gained some basic experience, and seen the value & impact of the work, we will be ready to aim for certification as an ISO14001-compliant company.
