ChemCOinS is a method of allowing the automatic recognition of information related to chemical substances on the World Wide Web. It works by embedding ContextObjects that identify a particular chemical substance into the HTML code of a webpage. The ContextObjects are encoded using the KEV format and placed as the title of an empty HTML span with the class chemcoins
.
ChemCOinS was developed by Nigel Wheatley for WikiChem: the current version is 1.0-2009. The name is derived from "ContextObjects in Spans" and the COinS system used to encode bibliographic metadata.
On WikiChem, ChemCOinS tags are inserted by the {{Substance identification}} template and by the {{Chembox Identifiers}} module of the chembox.
Fields
Each field is separated by &
ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004
- a reference to ANSI/NSO standard Z39.88 (2004)
rft_val_fmt=http%3A%2F%2Fpluto.potsdam.edu%2Fwikichem%2Findex.php%2FWikiChem%3AChemCOinS
- to be completed
rft_id=
- the hashed version of the standard InChI
rft_key=
- the hashed version of the version 1.0 InChI
rft_cas=
rft_ec
- the EC number
A valid ChemCOinS ContextObject must contain the ctx_ver
and rft_val_fmt
fields and at least one of the other fields.
Example
The ChemCOinS tag for caesium bromide is:
<span class="chemcoins" title="ctx_ver=Z39.88-2004&rft_val_fmt=http%3A%2F%2Fpluto.potsdam.edu%2Fwikichem%2Findex.php%2FWikiChem%3AChemCOinS&rft_id=LYQFWZFBNBDLEO-UHFFFAOYSA-M&rft_key=LYQFWZFBNBDLEO-REWHXWOFAA&rft_cas=7787-69-1&rft_ec=232-130-0"></span>
