The Francis P. Garvan–John M. Olin Medal is awarded annually by the American Chemical Society "to recognize distinguished service to chemistry by women chemists".[1] The award was established in 1936 with a donation from Francis P. Garvan, president of the Chemical Foundation; it was additionally sponsored by W. R. Grace & Co. from 1979 to 1983, and by the Olin Corporation from 1984 onwards.[1] The medal is accompanied by a cash prize, currently $5000, and a certificate: recipients must be United States citizens.[1]
