A noble gas, also called an inert gas,[Note 1] is an element from group 18 of the periodic table, that is, one of helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon or radon.[1] The name has been in use since the start of the twentieth century,[2] and refers to the low chemical reactivity of the elements.
