In this discussion we will continue to prepare for the Acme EPA inspection and work on our proposals. We will also discuss further how a chemical company can reduce its environmental impact using the four approaches give in Unit 4:

• Increase efficiency
  • Reduces use of natural resources & reduces waste
• Recycle or re-use elsewhere
  • Recycle within the process, or use as input for other processes
• Improve quality/extend life
  • Reinvest in natural capital
• Recycle biodegradable waste
  • Invest money in building & maintaining natural resources

Today we will focus on the DFE approaches detailed in Unit 4 for improving eco-efficiency:

Achieve eco-efficiency through

• Cleaner processes - modify to reduce waste
• Cleaner products - consider full life cycle
• Sustainable resource use - look at the whole production system and how resources are used.
