My name is Dirk Beetstra, I was born in Waskemeer, The Netherlands in 1971. Lived there until 1994, have lived in Belgium (Leuven) for one year, moved to Groningen (Netherlands), and since 2005 I live in Cardiff, Wales, UK.

General Interest:

My general interests are Chemistry (also my current workfield) and I like to walk/bike around in nature.

Work:

I am specialised in organic, organometallic and coordination chemistry. I studied chemistry at the Hanzehogeschool Groningen and University of Groningen (organic chemistry). After finishing my study I did a PhD in organometallic chemistry (Subject: Structure - Property Relationships in Early Tranistion Metal Based Olefin Polymerisation Catalysts) under guidance of Bart Hessen and Jan Teuben. Since 2005 I am working as a postdoc in Cardiff, Wales at Cardiff Univerity (for now, still working on the synthesis of new carbene ligands) under guidance of Kingsley Cavell, Nancy Dervisi and Ian Fallis.

I am also active on the Dutch Wikipedia as Beetstra.

I am currently trying to write a AWB script to perform many cleanup tasks automatically on chemical substances. If you think the script could be of help on a chemical page, please drop me a line (test runs seem to go quite OK, some things still need tweaking, and results are good, but not perfect, so the page will need some attention afterwards). Once it is fully operational (only leaving small glitches on pages which have problems with the style-guide), I will start a big run of all compounds to which {{ChemicalSources}} transcludes. The script can be found here. Example run (only automatic bot edits):
