- Template:Article B-Class, core article for WP:FILM PC78 (talk) 12:45, 2 October 2008 (UTC) NOTE: We're currently considering the entire core films selection en masse see talk. Walkerma (talk) 04:15, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Visual arts project: The following were selected after discussion by the project here. I would point out the project is handicapped on the auto-selection because we have few very active editors, and do not rate for importance, nor very often for quality (the ratings VA articles have are normally Biography project drive-bys, often inappropriate, and not updated). We only rarely do GAs either, & few FAs. These would all be Top-importance & are good quality. Looking at the other submissions around, in terms of subject importance, and hit rates, I think we are being too modest & should add more later. We have also suggested a number of removals on the other page. Johnbod (talk) 20:58, 14 October 2008 (UTC)

1795-1820 in fashion - more could be added, but we go to decade articles after this. Johnbod (talk) 19:41, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
- I passed all of the XXX in fashion because (a) they are very nicely done, (b) as a series of articles, they form a very good overview of the history of Western fashion and (c) they give us some coverage in a subject area where we are otherwise weak. My main gripe is that non-Western fashion is not covered at all - what were the styles found at the court of Ulugh_Beg, the Yongle Emperor, Akbar the Great or Dawit II of Ethiopia? I think perhaps the articles should add the word "Western" (or European?) into the titles. The last one in the selection also needs the citations formatting. Otherwise a very nice collection. These represent the kind of article SelectionBot may miss, because the lack of interwikis is merely due to a difference in how the material is covered - I'm sure that the French, Italian etc. Wikipedias cover this same content, they just break it down differently. You mention the problem with the decade articles - yes, perhaps it would be good if there were some summary articles. It may seem hard to describe all of C20th fashion in one article, but all subjects face this type of problem in writing overview articles, and these often make up some of our most useful content because material is shown in a wider context. Regarding jacket, etc. I think the fashion project should make an effort to bring these very basic topics up to a decent standard - they are clearly important topics, but the content in each of these looks like mainly "drive-by" content on random things rather than a coherent, comprehensive description of the topic. Thanks for a great set of nominations, Walkerma (talk) 08:26, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
- Fair comments, & sorry we were so late. The bot selected Han Chinese clothing and sari etc, but we don't have as much on non-european clothing, though generally these changed much less rapidly in these periods (see Fashion). Johnbod (talk) 11:59, 21 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for all the feedback. It's unfortunate, but I think the edits of (for example) coat (clothing) have reduced the comprehensiveness of the article over the last few months (from a historical perspective, jacket is probably best addressed as a subset of "coat"). But perhaps we need to find some editors who want to do solid research on fundamental topics like shirt. I do plan to go back through the History of Fashion series and bring the citations up to snuff; working forward through time on that, very slowly. - PKM (talk) 20:22, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
