The Dexter Award for Outstanding Achievement in the History of Chemistry was awarded by the Division of the History of Chemistry of the American Chemical Society from 1956 to 2001.[1] It was sponsored by the Dexter Chemical Corporation (1956–1999) and by the Mildred and Sidney Edelstein Foundation (2000–2001), and recognized an outstanding career of contributions to the history of chemistry.[1] The award consisted of a monetary prize and a handmade commemorative plaque depicting the frontispiece from the Plicto de Larte de Tentori che Insegna Tenger Pani Telle Banbasi et Sede si per Larthe Magiore come per las Comune (1548) by Gioanuentura Rosetti, one of the first printed books about dyeing.[1][2]
