Hi Martin, thanks for the welcome! How's the chem wikiproject coming? Sj 14:21, 1 June 2006 (EDT)

Publishing on a wiki

Hi Martin,

Nice to see you here as well. I see this site is dedicated to 'publishing'. Looks good. But as to the 'how to' .. I am starting to find my way around the wiki-coding, and I think it is possible! But before I give my view and ideas: is it possible for you to discuss these things on this wiki? And can you set out any outline about this? Are there things that have crystallised already? I'd like to know these things before I start reprogging a local wiki (which will be a lengthy and time-consuming task).

Hope to see you around! --Beetstra 04:42, 10 October 2006 (EDT)

Demonstration

Hi, I saw you added some pages for the demonstration. Quite nice. I already planned to vandalise one or two .. but .. I see it is not necessary :-).

You asked about 19:00 UTC .. UTC? What is that in 'my' time (currently GMT+1)? I'd like to be around, might interact with some things. Could you tell me a bit more about your audience? --Beetstra 05:02, 20 October 2006 (EDT)

P.S. I guess you realize there are some links on the main demonstration page which ar not working? --Beetstra 05:07, 20 October 2006 (EDT)

I will see if I can join in at 8:30 (my time). Bit in a dilemma .. I do feel like a beer .. but. You'll see if I am there! --Beetstra 12:52, 20 October 2006 (EDT)
I'm around, munching on some curry and a nan-bread. Beetstra 15:49, 20 October 2006 (EDT)

You're welcome. Glad I could help. I already thought it was the case, not much editing going on, while I spotted the new readers. I did some quick copy/paste to get some templates in place, indeed. I expected them to edit something, and these templates could keep them busy for a moment. But well, not much editing, still I could keep myself busy. I'll do some cleanup, moving some of the pages into the Demonstration-set (except those that may be necessary).

Well .. I was happy to have some distraction, my user-page on EN-wikipedia has had some heavy vandalism today, two users found it necessary to vandalize it a couple of times. Both are now blocked, luckily.

Now back to some positive editing. I started with my second tag-set <molmass>H2O</molmass> should show '18'. I will contact Sj, maybe he can help me with this. Cheers. --Beetstra 18:08, 20 October 2006 (EDT)

Scripts/upgrade/etc.

Hi, do your IT-people have an account on chemwiki? Maybe that is a way of directly communicating with them, and discuss upgrading, and how I can help you guys maintaining the chemwiki? --Beetstra 13:20, 20 October 2006 (EDT)

Meant to reply to this before, they do, I'll ask them to long in and look at your comments here. On Monday! Thanks again, Walkerma 18:14, 20 October 2006 (EDT)
I am waiting for Tim to be online on IRC again .. I am trying to bug him bigtime the last couple of days .. I want them active on test.wikipedia.org :-) ... But I otherwise I will have a talk with your IT-people. Cheers! --Beetstra 18:29, 20 October 2006 (EDT)

Quiz

Hi Dr, Walker!

Thanks for sending me the e-mail with the links to this site. I was able to read through the materials listed on the tasks list, however I was wondering where the online quiz is. Is that on blackboard? And if so, could you enroll me in it? Also, I cannot use this course to replace the forensic science (CHEM 315) class because the registration date changed. Could you fill out the override form for the registrar to allow me to take the class? Thanks!

                            Jesse Federman

PS: I sent a copy of this to your regular email address.

Check-in

Hi Dr. Walker! I just wanted to check in and let you know that I read chapter two of Dorff and unit two of the slides. I've also been looking at topics for the term paper and everything. I'll let you know how my progress is later on tomorrow! Thanks! J-Fed 18:24, 28 January 2008 (EST)

Hi Dr Walker! Just wanted to let you know that I received your last message regarding the homework problems and project. I clicked the link though for the homework and it said that the page did not exist. Will it be posted tomorrow? Thanks! J-Fed 18:36, 29 January 2008 (EST)
Hi Dr. Walker,
I just received an e-mail from Chris last night and he won't be able to make it on tonight. He is working from 6-9 and then has a meeting from 9-11. I believe he sent you an e-mail, but I just wanted to send you a message on wiki. I'll see you in lab today so could we talk then? I'm not sure what we should do. I'm sure we will be in NYC way before 4:00 so I can find a connection to participate in the discussion. Thanks. 72.230.78.98 09:47, 7 February 2008 (EST)

Discussions

Hi Dr Walker, its 4:36 and i still cannot access the discussion board for today! J-Fed 16:36, 1 February 2008 (EST)

Nothing i write is being recorded on the wiki. I am seriously losing my mind here. 137.143.162.199 17:18, 1 February 2008 (EST)

+ I've been trying and typing and re-logging in and everything and it is telling me that i am not logged in and that i am using a link that is not yet opened. J-Fed 17:24, 1 February 2008 (EST) it wont let my comments be heardJ-Fed 17:24, 1 February 2008 (EST)

+ Im just going to type it here. There needs to be reserch on geothermal energy and partnerships between companies need to be supported, We need to learn from our lessons and see what the impacts have been. The scarcity of resources needs to be a proirity for us because it shapes our economy. More incentives for businesses needs to become satisfactory to the general public because they are in essence paying for these impacts. More funding for research needs to occur, particulary biotechnology so that we can provides cheaper more economical means for suppling our own food and those for developing countries. The numbers dont lie on Dorff page 363 last paragraph it says: "There is no question that reducing poulation numbers over the next 100 years too approxomitely two billion, so that everyone on earth can enjoy a relatively high standard of living, will infringe on our freedom to reproduce. However, this freedom to reproduce can infringe on our freedoms from malnourosment, hunger, diseases, polutions, and poverty." J-Fed 17:36, 1 February 2008 (EST)
There need to be strategies for food supplies - we already have some green processes availiable. We need to conserve resources through new means. Using the excess heat from power plants for example. Reduce consumption, be aggressive in supporting the integration of the public and private sedtors of the economy for research. There needs to be international and national accessiblility and remanufacturing. Even though these things may cost more in the short-term, in the long run we will be much better off. J-Fed 17:39, 1 February 2008 (EST)
+ Can we control energy use? Shouldn't we tackle this problem first by focusing on the one thing that is absoulutely necessary for humans? Food. And then Transportation right? Then lighting, then the other things? I think we are taking too much for granted and are focusing in the wrong areas. We should be looking at a smaller subset of technologies instead of hundreds at once.J-Fed 17:42, 1 February 2008 (ES

+Innovation needs to become a forefront of our initiatives, whether its for the environment, or technology. Companies need to look at their design practices for making products. J-Fed 17:44, 1 February 2008 (EST)
