Gas constant
The gas constant (symbol: R) is the proportionality constant between the product of pressure and volume, pV, and the thermodynamic temperature, T, for an ideal gas. The most usual form is the molar gas constant, whose 2006 CODATA recommended value[1] is 8.314 472(15) J K−1 mol−1.
Determination
The most precise determinations of the molar gas constant come from the measurement of the speed of sound in argon.[2]
