Barium bromite, Ba(BrO2)2, is formally the barium salt of bromous acid. It was the first bromite to be isolated, as the monohydrate,[3][4] which is formed by the controlled disproportionation of barium hypobromite at pH 11–12 and 0 °C.[4][5][6] The anhydrous salt can be prepared by heating barium bromate to 250 °C in vacuo.[7]

2 Ba(BrO3)2 → 2 Ba(BrO2)2 + O2
