In this discussion we will continue to prepare for the Acme EPA inspection and work on our proposals. We will also discuss further how a chemical company can reduce its environmental impact using the four approaches give in Unit 4:
- Increase efficiency
- Reduces use of natural resources & reduces waste
- Recycle or re-use elsewhere
- Recycle within the process, or use as input for other processes
- Improve quality/extend life
- Reinvest in natural capital
- Recycle biodegradable waste
- Invest money in building & maintaining natural resources
Today we will focus on the DFE approaches detailed in Unit 4 for improving eco-efficiency:
- Achieve eco-efficiency through
- Cleaner processes - modify to reduce waste
- Cleaner products - consider full life cycle
- Sustainable resource use - look at the whole production system and how resources are used.
