Students will take on various roles on the environmental committee of a fictitious manufacturing company. One assignment will involve two "virtual meetings" taking place during the weekly discussion timeslot where environmental problems will be reviewed and an environmental management system will be discussed. You will also need to write a paper making the case for the company to invest in something to meet its sustainability goals. This part of the course aims to bring home the real-world problems of creating a sustainable manufacturing enterprise.  The first draft of case presentations are due by March 21, and the final draft of case presentations are due by Friday April 11, 2007.

Problem sets

Each worth 6% of the overall grade, i.e., 30% in total.

Role play and case presentation

Students will take on various roles on the environmental committee of a fictitious manufacturing company. One assignment will involve two "virtual meetings" taking place during the weekly discussion timeslot where environmental problems will be reviewed and an environmental management system will be discussed. This will be worth 5% of your overall grade, and this is largely based on the quality of your participation. The purpose of this is to bring home the realities of trying to implement environmental improvements in a manufacturing business. It will also provide the context for the case presentation (see below).

You will also need to write a paper making the case for the company to invest in something to meet its sustainability goals. This is worth 10% of your total grade. The first draft of case presentations are due by March 21, and the final draft of case presentations are due by Friday April 11, 2007.
