*Cleaner processes - modify to reduce waste

*Cleaner products - consider full life cycle

*Sustainable resource use - look at the whole production system and how resources are used.

In this discussion we will meet on Etherpad

In this discussion we look at how a business can make itself greener using the four approaches give in Unit 4. We will use the Acme Chemical Company as an example, though you may propose ideas relating to other types of business if you wish. The discussion can be used to help you develop ideas to use on your Acme proposal.

The four approaches in Unit 4 will be considered in turn:

  • Increase efficiency
    • Reduces use of natural resources & reduces waste
  • Recycle or re-use elsewhere
    • Recycle within the process, or use as input for other processes
  • Improve quality/extend life
  • Reinvest in natural capital
    • Recycle biodegradable waste
    • Invest money in building & maintaining natural resources
