Ytterbium(III) bromide, YbBr3, is the higher bromide of ytterbium. The hydrate is prepared by dissolving ytterbium(III) oxide or ytterbium carbonate in hydrobromic acid, but cannot be dehydrated without partial hydrolysis.[1] The anhydrous salt is prepared by reaction of the elements.[1]
