Many of our attendees may be students looking to attend graduate school, or representatives of graduate schools looking to recruit suitable students. We hope that NERM 2010 will provide a suitable environment for students and recruiters to have fruitful meetings and discussions.
Poster session and careers fair
On the evening of Wednesday, June 2nd, there will be a poster session and recruitment fair in the Barrington Multipurpose Room (MPR). Tables will be made available for graduate school representatives to provide literature and meet with prospective graduate students. At the same time, recruiters will be able to talk with prospective graduate students at their posters, allowing candidates to discuss their research and possibly participate in informal interviews.
Under a new scheme piloted at NERM, poster presenters can display a colored dot to indicate their status to recruiters:
- A red dot indicates an undergraduate student looking for a graduate school
- A blue dot indicates a graduate student looking for an industrial position
- A green dot indicates a graduate student looking for a postdoctoral position
With your permission, we will also share your name with recruiters of your choice. This will allow graduate school representatives to talk with you about your research at your poster.
For graduate school recruiters
Graduate school representatives wishing to meet prospective graduate students have several options available:
- Simply attend
You may simply register, and indicate at registration that "I will be representing a graduate school, looking to recruit suitable students for graduate work." In this case, we will provide you with names of students who have indicated an interest in graduate school. With all other options below, we will also provide you with this list.
- Put materials on display
For a cost of $25, you may place materials on display on our graduate schools table in the Kellas corridor, during the vendor expo on Thursday and Friday. If you are unable to attend in person, please mail the materials to us at NERM 2010, Department of Chemistry, SUNY Potsdam, Potsdam, NY 13676.
- Attend with a table
This will cost $100, and allow you to have a small table at the poster session/careers fair (either in the room, or in the foyer as you enter the room) where you can display materials and meet with potential applicants. We will also make sure that your materials are left on display on our graduate schools table in the Kellas corridor during the vendor expo on Thursday and Friday.
If the main poster area is full and we are unable to provide you with a table in that main area, we will provide a table in an adjacent open room for $50; this will allow people to drift freely between the two rooms. You will also be able to display material in the Kellas corridor.
- Attend with a table at the vendor exhibition.
For a cost of $500, you can have a high profile at the meeting. This option provides:
- A small table at the main poster session/career fair
- A 6 x 3ft table at the vendor exhibition during 8am - 5pm Thursday and Friday, in the Kellas Hallway with wireless internet
- A door prize (an iPhone) to encourage attendees to visit your table
- Includes registrations (with lunch) for two people
