Group 3 of the periodic table comprises the elements scandium, yttrium, lanthanum and actinium.[Note 1][1] The group 3 elements are, by definition, transition elements.

Notes

  1. Other, minority definitions either include the lanthanoids and actinoids in group 3, or substitute lutetium and lawrencium for lanthanum and actinium: there is no basis in periodicity for such changes.
