This is the website for the Northeast Region of the American Chemical Society, which covers New England and upstate New York. Events within the region include the annual NERM conferences (the "Northeast Regional Meetings"; these are coordinated and overseen at the regional level by members of the regional board, as well as representatives from all of the local section. The local sections of the Northeast Region are listed below.
Regional meetings
The 2015 NERM was held in Ithaca, New York on June 10 - 13, 2015, hosted by the Cornell local section, and was a great success. Over 650 people attended, with over 50% being students. The plenary speaker will be Prof. Esther Takeuchi (SUNY Stony Brook), presenting on "Battery Science: At the Confluence of Electrochemistry and Materials Science."
NERM 2016 will be held in Binghamton on October 5-8, 2016.
NERM 2017 will be hosted by the Eastern New York section in Spring 2017.
Regional awards
Three regional ACS awards were presented at NERM 2015:
- The ACS Division of Chemical Education Northeast Region Award for Excellence in High School Teaching was awarded to Suzy Drurey, Newton South High School, Newton, MA.
- The E. Ann Nalley Regional Award for Volunteer Service to the American Chemical Society was awarded to Prof. Wayne E. Jones, Jr., SUNY Binghamton.
- The Marinda Wu Partners for Progress and Prosperity Award was awarded to the Exchange Program of the Northeast Section of the ACS (NESACS) and the Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker (GDCh).
Local sections
The Northeast Region of the ACS consists of the following Local Sections in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island and Vermont:
