Curium (symbol: Cm) is a synthetic chemical element, a member of the actinoid series.
Curium was first prepared in 1944 in the University of Chicago Metallurgical Laboratory.[8][9] It was named after Pierre and Marie Curie, pioneers of the study of radioactivity, by analogy with gadolinium, its lanthanoid homologue, named after the Swedish chemist Johan Gadolin.
